The Courage to Follow the Voice of God

My Dearest Daughters,

We have finished the "Primeval History" of the world—the broad story of creation, the fall, the flood, and the nations. Now, in Genesis 12, the camera zooms in. The Bible shifts from the history of all humanity to the specific story of one man: Abram (who would later be known as Abraham).

The Great Pivot: In Genesis 11, we saw people trying to build a tower to reach the heavens. In Genesis 12, we see a man who simply listened to the heavens. God speaks to Abram, and the instruction is short but radical:

"Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee" (Genesis 12:1).

The Threefold Test of Obedience: God asked Abram to leave three things that provide us with security:

  1. His Country: His place of belonging.

  2. His Kindred: His social circle and comfort zone.

  3. His Father’s House: His inheritance and familial support.

Abram was asked to leave his security to go to a land he had never seen, led only by the promise of a God he had chosen to trust. This is the definition of faith: Walking toward a destination you cannot see, simply because you trust the One who is calling you.

The Promise: God didn't just ask Abram to leave; He gave him a promise: "And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing" (Genesis 12:2).

Notice the goal of the blessing: "Thou shalt be a blessing." Abram wasn't blessed so he could hoard it; he was blessed so he could be a channel through which all the families of the earth would be reached.

Why This Matters to You: My loves, God will often call you to "leave" something before He gives you your "something new."

  • It might be leaving a group of friends who don't share your values.

  • It might be leaving a mindset of fear or insecurity.

  • It might be leaving the "tower" of your own ambitions so you can start walking in the direction He has planned for you.

🛡️ Mum Tips: Practicing "The Walk of Faith"

  • Listen for the Call: God may not speak to you in a thunderous voice, but He speaks through His Word and His peace. When you feel a "nudge" to step away from something that isn't helping you grow in your relationship with Him, don't ignore it.

  • Trust the "I Will Show Thee": Abram didn't have a map; he only had a promise. You don't have to have your whole life mapped out to be obedient. You only need to be willing to take the next step.

  • Be a Blessing: Whenever you receive a blessing—whether it’s wisdom, success, or peace—always ask, "Who can I share this with?" We are blessed to be a blessing.

  1. Abram had to leave his family and his home to follow God. What is the hardest "comfort" you have ever had to give up to follow what you knew was right?

  2. Abram was promised he would be a "blessing to all families of the earth." How can you use your gifts to be a blessing to others right where you are today?

  3. Faith is moving forward without a map. What area of your life feels like "unknown territory" right now, and how can you invite God to lead you through it?

A Final Word


My beautiful daughters, Abram’s life changed the world because he was willing to be the first one to say "Yes" when God called. You are part of that same lineage of faith. Don't be afraid to leave the "towers" of the world behind. When you follow the voice of God, He doesn't just show you a new land—He shows you your purpose.
