Topic: Building for God’s Glory vs. Building for Our Own

My Dearest Daughters,

We have seen the spread of the nations in Genesis 10, but in Genesis 11, we see humanity facing a new temptation. After the flood, as the descendants of Noah began to multiply, they found themselves in the land of Shinar. Instead of following God’s command to "fill the earth," they decided to gather in one place and build something that would make a name for themselves.

The Story of the Tower: They looked at the horizon and said, "Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:4).

Do you see the heart of the problem?

  1. Unity for the Wrong Reason: Their unity was not based on worshipping God, but on relying on their own strength.

  2. The "Name" Trap: They wanted to make a name for themselves rather than glorifying the name of the Lord.

  3. Fear of Dispersal: God had told them to fill the earth and explore it, but they were afraid of being scattered, so they tried to stay in one place where they could control everything.

God came down to see their work, and because He knew that human pride, if left unchecked, would only lead to further destruction, He confused their languages and scattered them across the face of the earth.

Why This Matters to You: My loves, we all have a "Tower" in our lives. A tower is anything we build to feel secure, to gain fame, or to ensure our own glory without needing God. It might be your desire to be popular at school, your obsession with your image, or your need to be "in control" of your future. Whenever we try to reach "heaven" through our own hard work and for our own reputation, we are building a tower that will eventually fall.

🛡️ Mum Tips: Building on the Right Foundation

  • Check Your "Why": Before you start a big project—whether it's an academic goal, a creative endeavor, or a new friendship—ask yourself: Am I doing this to make a name for myself, or to honor God?

  • Embrace the "Scattering": Sometimes, God will move you out of your comfort zone. You might have to change schools, move to a new place, or leave a group of friends. Don't fight it! God may be "scattering" you because He has a bigger territory for you to influence.

  • True Security: The people at Babel built the tower because they were afraid of being scattered. Don't live in fear. You are already secure in God’s presence. You don't need a "tower" to protect you; you have the King of the Universe.

  2. Is there an area of your life where you are trying to "control" the outcome rather than trusting God?

  3. How does it change your perspective to know that God wants you to spread out and influence the world, rather than hiding in a "safe" place of your own making?

A Final Word


My lovely daughters, building a name for yourself is a heavy burden, but living for the glory of God is a light and joyful path. Don’t spend your life building towers of pride that will eventually crumble. Build your life on the foundation of His Word. When you do that, you don't have to worry about "reaching heaven"—He has already come down to meet you.
