Daughter Before Anything Else

 My Dearest Daughters,

At the tomb, weeping, Mary Magdalene mistook Jesus for the gardener — until He said one word. "Mary." Just her name. And in that single word, she recognized Him instantly.

What happens next still moves me every time I read it. Jesus doesn't send one of the twelve disciples to carry the news of His resurrection. He sends Mary — a woman once known only for seven demons, in a culture where a woman's testimony wasn't even considered legally valid — to be the very first witness of the most important event in human history.

Centuries before that morning, God had already promised His people, through Hosea, that He would call "not loved" His loved one, and "not my people" His own (Hosea 2:23). The pattern is the same: God renames people, regardless of what they were called before.

Where This Shows Up in Real Life

• The woman whose name has become shorthand for her worst season in other people's mouths.
• Anyone who feels like they've been permanently defined by a label — divorced, addict, failure, outsider.
• The woman who has never been trusted with anything significant, wondering if she ever will be.

🛡️ Mum Tips: Letting Your Name Mean "Daughter" First

• Listen for your name, not your label. Jesus didn't list Mary's history at the tomb. He simply said her name. Let that be what settles your identity too.
• Remember who God trusts with important things. Mary was the least likely candidate by the culture's standards — and exactly who Jesus chose. Don't disqualify yourself the way the world might.
• Speak the truth over your own name. Say it: "I am a daughter before I am anything else."

A Final Word

Daughters, whatever your name has come to mean in other people's mouths, remember what it meant in His. He didn't need a resume from Mary. He just called her name — and that was enough to settle who she was and what she'd carry forward.
