He Clothed Them Before He Judged Them

 

My Dearest Daughters,

Before God said another word about consequences, He made clothing for Adam and Eve with His own hands and covered them Himself.

Read that again, Daughters. Their fig leaves — their own attempt to cover their shame — had already failed. But before judgment, before exile, before anything else, God covered them more thoroughly than they could cover themselves.

Then comes the part of the story that can be hard to sit with: God drives them from the garden, away from the tree of life. It can sound severe, until you understand why. If they had eaten from that tree in their fallen state, they would have lived forever separated from God, with no way back, no redemption, no restoration. God removed them not to punish them further, but to protect the very relationship sin had already damaged — and to protect the promise still to come.

Where This Shows Up in Real Life

• The relationship that ended and felt like abandonment, but may have protected you from something worse.
• The door that closed — a job, an opportunity, a season — that you're still grieving, but that God may have been shielding you from.
• The consequence you're currently living with, wondering if God has turned away from you because of it.

Daughters, discipline and love are not opposites. Sometimes the very things that feel like loss are the shape love takes when it's protecting us from what we cannot yet see.

🛡️ Mum Tips: When You're Living Through a "Driven Out" Season

• Look for what came before the hard part. Just like God clothed Adam and Eve before addressing anything else, look for the ways He has already been covering you — even in a season that feels like consequence.
• Ask what you might be being protected from. A closed door rarely feels like protection in the moment. Give yourself permission to wonder what it might be shielding you from.
• Hold onto the promise, not just the exile. Genesis 3:15 — the promise of Jesus — was spoken before Adam and Eve ever left the garden. Whatever "exile" you're in, the promise came first.

1. Has there been a closed door or hard season in your life that, looking back, may have been God's protection rather than His absence?
2. How does it change the way you see God's discipline to know He clothed Adam and Eve before saying anything else?
3. What does it mean to you personally that the promise of Jesus was already spoken before Eve even left the garden?

A Final Word

My daughters, the garden gate closed that day, but it was never the whole story. God was already moving toward the day He would send the seed of the woman — Jesus — to make a way back to Himself. Whatever season of exile or consequence you're walking through right now, you are not abandoned. You are still covered, and the promise is still coming.
